Metrico+ Comes to PS4 August 23, Watch the New Trailer

Metrico+ is done! We waited a long time before posting anything on PlayStation.Blog again, because we wanted to come back with some big news: Metrico+ will launch on August 23.

We made a new trailer that shows all the different worlds that you can explore in Metrico+:

Metrico+ will be available for purchase at PlayStation Store on August 23 for $13.99.

We also have some great news for owners of the original Metrico for PS Vita: If you own Metrico already, you can buy Metrico+ for just $6.99!

(This discount also applies if you were to buy Metrico on Vita right now, as long as you do so before getting Metrico+)

Because lots of players loved the original Metrico on PS Vita, we felt we should incentivize those players to try Metrico+ as well, by giving them a substantial discount. Hopefully they will try Metrico+ and experience all the new challenges it has to offer and new worlds to explore, and see the reimagined world of Metrico on their television screens.

Now let’s make one thing clear: The only reason Metrico+ is not called ‘Metrico 2’ is because several puzzles of the original are still in Metrico+. However, there is so much new content and other new features in the game that we think Metrico+ is an entirely new game altogether.

Reimagining Metrico for PlayStation 4 has been a lot more difficult than we anticipated. We knew it was never going to be easy since it used so many of PS Vita’s hardware features — we had to come up with entirely new game mechanics and puzzles! We also felt like we had to add a lot to the game to make it work on a big screen, and we wanted to try and get even more out of the world of Metrico.

Therefore, we chose to improve Metrico a lot and added lots of new features; we made the world of Metrico look way prettier for the big screen, there are new Trophies, we added a speedrun mode, there are new and special character animations, there is an entirely new story in the game, the music has been revised by Palmbomen, and most importantly: Metrico+ contains over 40 new puzzles utilizing new gameplay mechanics. That’s why we added a “+” to the title.

And as I’ve said before: I promise that even if you’ve played the original Metrico before, you will feel like you’re playing a different game when you play Metrico+. But above all: We know there are so many players that haven’t experienced the world of Metrico yet, that’s why we can’t wait to bring it to the PlayStation 4. Hopefully you like it just as much as we loved creating it!

Metrico+ releases on PlayStation Store in just a few weeks. As always, feel free to ask us anything!

The Story Behind Psycho-Pass: Mandatory Happiness

Greetings, doods! Chris here from NIS America to give you some more exclusive information on Psycho-Pass: Mandatory Happiness, due to launch on September 13 as both a physical and digital release for PS4 and PS Vita.

For those unfamiliar with the game, check out our previous blog post back in April or visit our official website.

Mandatory Happiness?

The antagonist of the game, a hacker who goes by the name Alpha, is brand-new to the Psycho-Pass universe and holds a simple, innocent objective — to make people happy. However, with his naive, adolescent mindset, Alpha does not understand that one person’s happiness could equate to another person’s sorrow, suffering, or even worse.

This eventually brings Alpha into heavy conflict with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) who slowly begin to learn who he is, what his capabilities are, and his over-all purpose. To make matters more complicated, Alpha seeks to help out emotionally unstable people with Crime Coefficients right below the threshold of the Dominator’s “Lethal Eliminator” mode. To them, he is their saving grace, their last resort. And all Alpha thinks is that he is only trying to save them, only trying to help them.

The Cases to Solve

After selecting either Inspector Nadeshiko Kugatachi or Enforcer Takuma Tsurugi and getting introduced to the members of the CID Division 1, your first case is given to you — a girl who has been kidnapped by a boy in Sado Marine City.

The boy and girl used to be close friends before their relationship got hijacked by the girl’s mom, who pretended to be the girl and sent the boy a heart-breaking message via text. Confused and distraught, the boy’s emotions begin to spin out of control. Soon after, Alpha contacts the boy and offers to help him find the girl and achieve his happiness.

Thanks to Alpha’s genius hacking abilities, the boy successfully finds the girl, but blackmails her into staying with him for a night. She hesitates, but agrees. Ultimately, the girl’s mom calls the police and reports her daughter missing after she doesn’t come home that night.

Soon after, Division 1 receives information on the whereabouts of the boy and girl, and the chase begins. It is from this point, as either Kugatachi or Tsurugi, that you are entrusted to make important choices to find the suspect. It is from this point that the decisions you make could eventually lead to saving somebody’s life or pulling the trigger to end it.

And… it’s hard for me to continue! Both because it’s a tad spoilery, and because your own decisions will result in different outcomes. But I can testify that when I played this chapter, I kind of freaked out. Let’s just say I made some bad choices.

Free Anime Episodes!?

Still haven’t seen the anime? We have some good news for you! All versions of Psycho-Pass: Mandatory Happiness will come with the first two episodes (subtitled) of Season 1 of the anime series, redeemable via PSN.

That’s all folks, thank you all for reading! We hope you’re excited to decide your own fate with Psycho-Pass: Mandatory Happiness on September 13 for PS4 and PS Vita. Visit our official website for more on the game and pre-order info!

Rollercoaster Dreams Launches October 13 on PlayStation VR

Hiya! I’m pleased to announce that Bimboosoft is bringing Rollercoaster Dreams to PS4 and PS VR on October 13.

Rollercoaster Dreams is an amusement park management game. You can play in your own amusement parks, and amusement parks made by players from all over the world! The game supports PlayStation VR, so you can feel like you’re truly in the game world.

As you know, you can see objects in real 3D with PlayStation VR. But the visual element isn’t the only feature of PS VR that enhances a player’s immersion. PS VR also has awesome 3D virtual surround sound. When you wear headphones you can recognize the position of sounds. I thought it would be impossible to generate sound positions with headphones, but I was surprised to learn that we recognize sound position by differences in sound timing, not the sound wave direction. The virtual surround sound enhances the realistic sensation of the amusement parks in Rollercoaster Dreams.

Although you can play Rollercoaster Dreams in VR and with a regular display, I strongly recommend you play it with PlayStation VR. The feeling of entering into the world of the game is incredible. It’s a revolution in gaming, similar to when games made the leap from sprites to polygons. I’m fortunate to be involved with this revolution, and looking forward to playing other games with PlayStation VR.

I hope you enjoy the virtual amusement parks in Rollercoaster Dreams!

Paragon: The Fey Channels Nature’s Fury on August 2

We’d like to introduce you to the latest Hero for our MOBA Paragon. We call this Support Caster… The Fey. She’s an entity who channels nature’s power in Agora. Get your first look at her below, and play The Fey as part of our update on Tuesday, August 2.

The TL;DR on The Fey is that she is a Support Caster (Energy Damage; Growth, Intellect) who uses nature’s power in Agora for crowd control and in-lane harassment. Her Untamed Growth ability throws out a explosive plant that does AOE damage over time. Her Bramble Patch creates a line of thorny brambles that can slow multiple Heroes. Harvest Nettles refunds mana on successful hit while her Ultimate, Fly Trap, summons a gargantuan plant that drags you in and applies serious damage.

As always, all Heroes in Paragon are free, so if you’re in Early Access you’ll be able to jump in as The Fey on Tuesday. If you’re not in Early Access yet, you can pick up a Starter Pack to get into the action prior to Free Open Beta on August 16. PlayStation Plus members can even pick up a free Starter Pack through Monday, August 1.

See you on the battlefield! Good luck, have fun!

World War Toons Open Beta Begins October 13 on PS VR

Load your rocket launchers and gas up your tanks, the World War Toons open beta is launching October 13 on PlayStation VR. That’s right, World War Toons is going to be a PlayStation VR launch title, and it won’t cost you a dime because it’s free to play!

The Axis and Allies are pitted against each other in this cartoony multiplayer first-person shooter. Battle atop airships, under bridges, and inside windmills fighting as one of our unique and comedic classes. From the lightning quick Officer to the silent but deadly Sniper, every player will be able to make a mark in their quest to be the best. And if the enemies have you pinned down in a corner, don’t fret because with the press of a button you’ll be able to transform into a tank and turn the tide of battle.

If you’re looking to add a bit of punch to your domination, why not mow down your enemies on a rideable rocket? Boom with delight as each enemy you hit gets pinned to the front. After that, drench yourself in radioactive waste and zip around the map damaging anyone around you. Want to make a memorable entrance? We’ve got a huge red bomb named Grinnade that chases your enemies down to give them a nice, big, explosive hug.

World War Toons has been designed for virtual reality since day one so that you will be fully immersed in our chaotically cartoony world. But if you weren’t able to nab a PlayStation VR pre-order, don’t worry — you can still join the fight in our non-VR version absolutely free.

Before we go, we want to give you more than just a nugget of World War Toons information today, so we’re cracking open the door to unveil our fourth level, Pyramid Scheme!

In this capture-the-flag type match, players will face off in ancient Egypt ruins, but with a bit of World War Toons flavor seasoned in. Instead of crossing the road for a bland old flag, you’ll flock to capture the free-range Ra Chicken and race back to your base in this first-to-three match. However, you won’t be able to just wing it and score a point. Blistering lasers, rising lava pits, and scorching fireballs will turn up the heat as you and your team fly to your coop. Oh, and don’t forget about the swinging blades. If they skewer you, they’re certain to put you in a fowl mood. Chicken pun.

We’ll see you October 13 as we hatch on PlayStation VR!

Tricky Towers Arrives on PS4 August 2, Free for PS Plus

Hi everyone, Niels from WeirdBeard here. We have some exciting news! Tricky Towers will be released on PS4 August 2, and to celebrate we’ll be doing a live stream to show you all the game and answer any burning questions you might have.

We’ve been quite busy over the last year both developing and showing Tricky Towers off at events around the world. We’ve had a great response from players and we really enjoy engaging with gamers and being able to talk about the game and the work that has gone into it. Livestreaming seems like a natural step for us to take, and it allows us to show you Tricky Towers and answer your questions no matter where in the world you happen to be!

The livestream event will take place on August 4 at 11:00 AM Pacific. You can already register for it via Events in the PS4 menu — make sure you’ve connected your Twitch account so you’re ready to send in questions when the stream starts.

For those who need a bit of a refresher — Tricky Towers is a physics-based tower building game. Using tetromino bricks you must build a tower higher, faster, and better than your opponents. You can also cast magic spells to either stabilize your own tower or sabotage those of other players. When your tower is swaying and magic spells are flying thick and fast, you’ll find yourself on the edge of your seat, cheering and jeering along with your friends!

We’ve added quite a bit to Tricky Towers since our last blog post. There’s now a whole new mode called Puzzle which is all about fitting as many bricks as you can below a destructive laser line. Smart building wins over fast building in Puzzle mode, so if you’re looking for something a bit more zen then this is the mode for you.

Along with that we’ve added different difficulty levels for all three modes, online and offline (local) multiplayer, a huge number of single-player trials and a single-player endless mode where you can compete with players around the globe for the top score.

We’re really looking forward to releasing Tricky Towers on PS4 and letting you all in to play. See you in the live stream on August 4!

Yakuza 0 Launches January 24, 2017, Exclusively on PS4

Give your shoes a pump, set your pager to vibrate, and get ready to crank your Walkman, because Yakuza 0 has a release date — you’ll be able to introduce street thugs’ faces to the exquisite pavement of Kamurocho on January 24, 2017, exclusively on PS4 in North America and Europe. (That lead sentence was full of eighties references, since Yakuza 0 takes place in 1988.)

If you’ve only heard some friends shout “Play Yakuza!” from the rooftops of the internet, Yakuza 0 is the perfect game to get into the series. Yakuza 0 is a prequel to all the previous games, where our grizzled yakuza-with-a-heart-of-gold protagonist, Kazuma Kiryu, is a bright-eyed 20-year-old, fresh into the game. Meanwhile, Goro Majima, the guy with the snake-skin jacket and the hot streak of insanity, is a suave and calculated owner of a cabaret. He actually wants to get back into the yakuza.

But let’s back it up a step or six. I’m Scott Strichart, the localization producer on the game, and I wanted to tell you about some of the ways we’re taking this game’s localization to the next level.

I’ll start with saying that, for the first time since Yakuza 2 back on PS2, we’re actually putting all the chapter titles, character introductions, opponent names, and on-screen directions in English, instead of just subtitling the kanji. This might seem like a pretty small change, but I think when you get to play the game, you’ll really feel the difference!

Secondly, and this is sometimes controversial, but hear me out — we’re maintaining general-use honorifics in the English script. We’re leaving the original Japanese voices intact for the authenticity that only a Japanese voice actor could bring to a yakuza experience, so we took the opportunity to bring the subtitles you’re reading closer to what you’re actually hearing the characters say. Beyond just marrying the subtitles to the spoken word, the honorifics actually play a pretty important role in understanding the respect (or lack thereof) characters have for each other. I think you’ll really see how much more this adds to the story when you get to play it!

Lastly, with this game rewinding to the origins of the series, this was also a chance for us to hit the reset button on the way we refer to the yakuza ranks. Yakuza 0 is going to show you how a power struggle inside a criminal organization looks, and I’ll tell right now, it ain’t pretty.

Of course, whenever you need a break from all this heavy stuff, Yakuza 0 — like the rest of the games before it — delivers plenty of diversions. You can race pocket cars, manage your side businesses, hit the dance floor or the pool hall, go get a drink, chat up girls on the telephone, and much, much more.

Once again, Yakuza 0 is coming January 24 in physical and digital edition. For more information, check out our fresh-outta-the-takoyaki-pan website we just launched, and pre-order today from participating retailers to show this incredible series a little love!

The Final Station Rolls Onto PS4 August 30

Hi everyone, Alex here to talk about trains. I heard you like trains. And the apocalypse — we have that, too! If only it was a roguelike (It’s not!), we’d check off all the boxes from the bingo card. I’m here to talk about The Final Station.

Whenever we show The Final Station at preview events, the initial reaction is usually comparing it with the movie Snowpiercer (Great movie, by the way) — which makes me laugh as the game’s designer created the game without watching it. A few minutes into the demo people understand that this is a very deceptively challenging game.

In The Final Station, you travel through a dying world on a train. You look after your passengers, keep the train operational, and explore mysterious abandoned stations where you find supplies and more survivors and encounter enemies.

The difficulty of the game comes from its station design — you never see what’s behind a locked door and are always running low on supplies. If you use up that last medkit on yourself, odds are one of your survivors will die due to injuries. If they die on your train (during travels between stations), you can loot them for a small reward. However, if you get them to their destination — they will give you a much more tangible reward (Maybe an upgrade for your gun?).

Watching players brace themselves before opening up a door is my favorite moment as a spectator. You’re constantly low on ammo and medkits, and have to be tactical about approaching enemies. They will come at you in groups, and a good way to counter them is by throwing certain objects (You can pick up boxes… or toilets) at fast-running enemies and then tactically headshot others.

The first part of the game is exploring abandoned stations where you loot, rescue survivors, and encounter enemies. Let’s talk about that. You start off with a pistol and a melee attack. The melee is useful for taking out single enemies, but you will need the pistol for taking out fast-runners, armored enemies, and I won’t spoil the rest.

The goal in each Abandoned Station is to find as much loot as you can, rescue all of the survivors, and make it back in one piece. Usually your train will dock at the station and get locked with a passcode. This passcode can be found somewhere at the station. And don’t worry, there are no escort missions for survivors — they make their own way back to the train.

Between Abandoned Stations, you need to ensure your train is operational and your survivors are well taken care of. With the loot that you gathered you can craft ammo and medkits, so it’s a good idea to explore stations.

The game itself consists of five chapters. In-between chapters you visit inhabited stations where you can upgrade your gear and get more of the story.

I’m super happy to announce that The Final Station is coming to PS4 on August 30. We’re doing a launch event at PAX West in Seattle where we’ll be giving away thousands of exclusive… train whistles. Seriously. Come grab yours from the abusively orange booth that you absolutely cannot miss.
