Westworld: Get Set for Season 2

Warning: spoilers for Westworld Season 1!

Attention PlayStation Vue subscribers! Westworld, one of my favorite HBO series, returns on April 22. That’s this Sunday! Before the character-driven drama and twisting mysteries continue, we wanted to refresh you on the happenings of the extraordinary first season.

In the Loop

We begin with the story of Dolores Abernathy, the daughter of a rancher. She believes that everything around her, even the seedy town of Sweetwater, is a beautiful place with something new to discover every day. But in actuality, she is the oldest android “host” of Westworld, where “newcomers” pay top dollar to play out their deepest desires with zero consequence.

Teddy and Dolores - Westworld

Hosts’ core coding prevents them from harming newcomers and are also reset to their “loops” so that the memories of their interactions are erased. Glitches are starting to pop up around the park with a new update of “reveries” by park founder Robert Ford and lead programmer Bernard Lowe.

The biggest glitch shows up in Dolores’ father, Peter Abernathy. Peter finds a photo of a woman from outside of Westworld and it awakens something inside him. He suddenly remembers his past narratives, and in a panic whispers “These violent delights have violent ends,” a quote from Romeo and Juliet. The glitch is caught by the programming team, and Ford decides to remove Peter, deactivating him permanently from Westworld. As for Dolores, the line of Shakespeare is still rattling inside her brain, but she reveals nothing to the programmers upon their inspection of her.

The Making of the Man in Black

Over time, Dolores fully strays from her loop and meets William and Logan, two newcomers with very different views of Westworld. It’s William’s first time in the park, but Logan is all too familiar with Westworld and wants a couple of nights of debauchery with his eventual brother-in-law. He also lets William know that Delos, his father’s company, is looking to buy the park.

The Man in Black - Westworld

Against Logan’s wishes, William wants to help Dolores find a church that she keeps dreaming of from a past narrative and is later told, in the town of Pariah, that she needs to find The Maze to get what she’s looking for.

Meanwhile, Logan decides that a deal with Pariah’s army of Confederados is in his best interest, but the deal turns sour. William and Dolores abandon Logan in search of the church. Soon enough, they find the church and fall in love, with William deciding he wants to bring Dolores back to the real world with him.

Logan, returning alongside the Confederados, is enraged with William, explaining that he can’t love a host and also marry his sister. Logan pulls out a picture of his sister, which happens to be the same picture that caused Peter to glitch. He then restrains William and stabs Dolores, but she winds up fleeing to the church, where she finds an abandoned Westworld office in the basement – the origin of Ford’s work on the park.

Logan and William - Westworld

Losing Dolores sets off William, who kills the Confederados and ties up Logan, stranding him in the park on horseback. In a desperate search, William finds Dolores in Sweetwater, but instantly realizes her memory has been wiped and she doesn’t recognize him. Heartbroken, William takes his frustrations out on the park and, over time, becomes the infamous Man in Black – board member and majority shareholder of Delos.

As the Man in Black, William is searching for a way to awaken the hosts and make them self-aware. His ultimate goal is to make Westworld a more chaotic place where actions breed consequence.

Spreading The Glitch

Peter Abernathy is a Patient Zero of sorts. He passes on his glitch to Dolores by whispering to her, “These violent delights have violent ends,” who soon after passes it on to Maeve, the owner and proprietor of the Mariposa Saloon in Sweetwater.

Soon, Maeve begins to dream, remembering a past narrative of her and her child in a storyline of the park in its early days. They are both attacked and killed by the Man in Black, frightening her and, in turn, waking herself up. But she isn’t in her room at the Mariposa.

Maeve awakens naked on a table outside of Westworld and wanders around only to find other hosts being worked on. She is eventually found and brought back into the park, but the memory of men in hazmat suits begins to haunt her.

Maeve and Technician - Westworld

The visions start to swirl with the ones of her daughter, and Maeve sets out to find the truth about her existence. Wanting to return to the operating table, she keeps finding ways to kill herself, eventually colliding with Lutz, a “butcher” at Westworld that runs maintenance on the hosts. She threatens Lutz and his coworker Sylvester with death if they don’t boost her intelligence, knowing that this action will be the key to unlocking her self-consciousness.

The Dev Team

Ford wants to keep pushing the envelope with a new “reveries” update that allows the hosts to pull from previous instances to simulate real emotions and gestures, but the update seems to be the origin of the glitch. Ford explains to Bernard that his former partner Arnold was the architect behind the reveries, but Arnold was killed in a tragic accident – the only instance of death in Westworld.

Theresa Cullen of the Quality Assurance team sees this as a red flag. She believes that Ford has gone far enough and that the updates could pose a threat to the attendees of the park. Stuck in the middle, Bernard decides to monitor the park for any problems and soon discovers unregistered hosts in an abandoned section of Westworld.

Bernard finds a cabin filled with early hosts made by Ford that resemble his family. Bernard decides to be honest with Theresa and takes her there to investigate. Theresa finds a door that leads to a basement and the two find designs for hosts. But one looks a little too familiar.

Bernard and Theresa - Westworld

Theresa shows paperwork to Bernard of a host resembling himself and Ford enters to explain that Bernard is a host of his own design. Ford then orders Bernard to kill Theresa to keep his secret.

The Grand Narrative

At this point, the stories converge. Maeve decides to use her added intelligence to use the Westworld system on her own and grants herself the power to control other hosts. Her ultimate goal is to escape the park and to do so, enlists the help of hosts Hector Escaton and Armistice – bandits who rob the Mariposa every loop.

She also gets access to Bernard, whom she identifies as a host and orders him to find out his origins to become self-aware. Bernard then coerces Ford into unlocking his self-conscious so that he can find the clues to who he is inside his mind. He reaches the answer – Ford created Bernard in the image of Arnold to continue their unfinished work on the reveries since other programmers were unwilling to update the hosts.

That unwillingness was actually what got Arnold killed. Right before the park was to be opened, Arnold added a host’s mind, called Wyatt, into Dolores and incited a massacre of all the hosts, ending with Dolores shooting Arnold.

Ford then orders Bernard to shoot himself and leaves to join Westworld board members at a park gala to reveal his newest narrative “Journey into Night.”

Maeve finds Bernard, repairs him with the help of Lutz, and uses Hector and Armistice as diversions to escape to a train leaving the park. But right before the train departs, the memory of her daughter keeps her from following through and Maeve heads back to Westworld.

Dr. Robert Ford - Westworld

At the Gala, Ford marks a new age of the park, and Dolores kills Ford in the same spot she killed Arnold all those years ago. From the trees, hosts from cold storage descend upon the gala. The Man in Black is shot in the arm, signaling that all the hosts are capable of killing.

Don’t Forget These Faces

There are plenty of other narratives in the park and Season 2 will pit these characters against each other in the war between man and machine.

Teddy Flood
Dolores’ robo-beau, who helped her escape the clutches of the Man in Black in the final episode. Teddy is loyal to Dolores in his core code and will end up following her in her quest to liberate Westworld. But does Teddy share the same desire to kill so willingly?

Charlotte Hale
Hale is the Executive Director of Delos. In Season 1, her ultimate goal was to be rid of Ford so that the company could roll back hosts and make the park more profitable. She was also working with Theresa to smuggle the hosts’ data out of Fords hands so he couldn’t destroy the park. That data is stuck in the mind of…

Charlotte and the Man in Black - Westworld

Peter Abernathy
Yep. Every piece of information needed to run the park and likely restore the hosts to their original builds lies in the head of a host. Peter was released from cold storage in Maeve’s escape plan and Hale will surely stop at nothing to ensure his capture.

Clementine Pennyfeather
Maeve’s best friend was the unfortunate host used in Hale’s first attempt to oust Ford from the park which led to Clementine being lobotomized and sent to storage. Now that she’s released, her brain seems to only understand death. She could be a powerful instrument for the hosts.

Logan
Let’s not forget the scorned brother-in-law. Logan was last seen on a road to nowhere in his birthday suit. Expect the story of Logan losing the company to William to unfold in time. Maybe an older Logan will eventually emerge to challenge the Man in Black?

Ashley Stubbs
Stubbs is Westworld’s Head of Security who played second fiddle to Theresa during Season 1. He is now tasked with finding a way to bring order to the park. Stubbs is also suspicious of Bernard and may know of his true identity as a host.

Shogun World

In the final episode, Maeve’s great escape brings them into Shogun World, another park seemingly set in Japan and filled with samurai. We’ve seen glimpses of Maeve walking through the park in some trailers, so don’t be surprised if she decides to bring sword-wielding reinforcements to Westworld.

The Robo-Rebellion

The core code has been compromised and the park is in jeopardy. Will Westworld fall to Dolores and her host army? Is Maeve going to try and control the park from the outside and will she ever reunite with her daughter? Could the Man in Black’s hopes of a more dangerous park mean his end?

Westworld returns with its Season 2 premiere on HBO on April 22. Watch live on PlayStation Vue, or catch up with every episode available now on demand.

Detroit: Become Human Goes Gold, Demo Tomorrow

We are extremely pleased and proud to announce today, that after four years of passionate crafting, Detroit: Become Human has officially gone gold!

During these four years, we have gone through all possible states and emotions that the development of such a challenging project induces: the pride of working on something special and unique, the doubt of attaining all our creative and technical goals, the hope when publicly releasing scenes and trailers and seeing players’ positive reactions, the fear of not having enough time and resources to make everything perfect, the joy of finally seeing all parts of the puzzle come together, scene after scene, and finally being able to play the game from start to finish. And today, I guess it is with a mixture of all these feelings that we stand in front of you.

Detroit: Become Human is no longer our game. Instead, it will soon become yours. Yours to play, to own, to hopefully cherish. The fate of Connor, Kara and Markus is in your hands, along with the fate of all other characters in the game. Through your decisions and actions, you will have the opportunity to become the writer, the director and the main protagonist of the most branching story we have ever created. A story made of hopes, fears, sadness but also of joy and happiness. A story as much about us, humans, as it is about androids.

David Cage, the entire team and myself are proud of the work we have accomplished during these four years. We are grateful to all our wonderful actors, composers, artists and partners around the world who have lent their talent to making Detroit: Become Human the very special experience it has become.

We are also extremely grateful to our fans around the world. We have read all of your emails, all of your letters, all of your tweets and messages. Each of them has given us the inspiration to make the best possible game for our fans. Last but not least, we are extremely thankful to Sony and the whole PlayStation family for believing in us and enabling us to make our dreams come true.

To celebrate this milestone, and to help you pass the time as you hold on just a little while longer for the game’s release on May 25th, I am extremely happy to announce that the very first scene of the game, Hostage, will be available for download on the PS Store starting tomorrow, Tuesday, April 24 at 12:01 AM Eastern Standard Time.

As part of the Hostage demo experience, there’s also an extended Alexa Skill! Properly named “CyberLife,” the Alexa Skill will provide you guidance and additional intel about this near future android filled world. As you take on the role of Connor, a hostage negotiator android sent to take control of this high-stakes situation, the CyberLife Skill will help guide you in your decision making throughout the investigation process, while giving you a deeper look at the various characters involved within the Hostage demo. It will also give you insights on how you can best alter your decision within the experience that could result in a different ending outcome.

With the CyberLife Skill, you’ll be able to learn more about the world of Detroit: Become Human:

  • Tell Me About – Get more details as you examine every piece of the crime scene.
Try saying: “Alexa, ask CyberLife to tell me about the fish?”
  • What’s Their Story? – Uncover the truth behind any character you find within the demo.
Try saying: “Alexa, ask CyberLife to tell me about the Phillips Family?”
  • Alter the Course of History – Using the Flowchart at the end of the demo, use the skill to discover alternate endings.
Try saying: “Alexa, ask CyberLife why Connor failed to reach Daniel in time?”

To get started, all you need is the following:
1. Download the Detroit: Become Human Demo from the PS Store on PS4
2. Have access to any enabled Amazon Alexa Device
3. Download the Detroit: Become Human CyberLife Skill by saying “Alexa, enable CyberLife” or by doing a search for Cyberlife with your Amazon Alexa app (requires Alexa app and Wi-Fi internet connection).

Iron Spider Suit Inspired by Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War Coming to Marvel’s Spider-Man on Sept 7

Hey everyone,

It’s been an amazing three weeks since we announced the release date of Marvel’s Spider-Man, coming September 7th, 2018. Your feedback to our release date, collector’s edition, and Game Informer cover story has been tremendous and humbling. Thank you all so much for your support and the kind words on social media!

When we announced the release date, we revealed our pre-order bonus, which includes a Spidey Suit pack containing three suits. But we only showed one suit – Spider-Punk – with the other two being held back to be unveiled later.

Here’s an updated look at the pre-order video, with the second suit revealed:

That’s right! Players who pre-order Marvel’s Spider-Man will get an early unlock of the Iron Spider suit inspired by Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War. This was a big collaboration between Sony Interactive Entertainment, Insomniac, Marvel Games, and Marvel Studios. And while you may have glimpsed the pre-order video before, you haven’t seen this new video we made to show it off – some of you will even be lucky enough to see this on the big screen before the movie when the film hits theaters later this week.

Getting the opportunity to work with Marvel Games and Marvel Studios on this was another dream come true on this project. Seeing Spider-Man on the big screen in the MCU with his Iron Spider suit is something we are really excited about, and we knew Spider-Man fans around the world would want the chance to unlock our version of the Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War inspired Iron Spider suit in-game. We were given access to the actual CG asset from the upcoming film (in theaters on April 27th!!) to ensure that it was as true to the suit you’ll see at the cinema as possible.

In Marvel’s Spider-Man, having a variety of suits for players to use was a must-have for us. We looked across all of the Spider-Man lore for inspiration, and in the final game you’ll find suits inspired by comics and film, as well as completely original suits created by Insomniac and other artists. Each of the suits looks absolutely spectacular and we can’t wait for you to see more of them.

Beyond that, most suits will also feature a special suit power that you can use in-game. These powers let you do amazing things. While we aren’t quite ready to show them just yet, I did want to mention a couple examples. The Spider-Punk suit lets you rock out with a guitar, doing an AoE attack that’ll knock enemies off their feet. And the Iron Spider has a suit power that… well, you’ll know it when you see it happen in Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Infinity War.

Be sure to pre-order today, whether it’s on PS Store or at your favorite retailer, to get all Pre-Order bonuses including the Spidey Suit pack. And if you want some wallpapers for your phone, computer or PS4, just visit PS.com here to grab some!

We hope to see all you True Believers out at the cinemas this weekend catching Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Infinity War (I have my tickets!). Thanks again to Marvel Studios and Marvel Games for collaborating with us on the suit for the game. For all the latest on Marvel’s Spider-Man, be sure to check out Insomniac Games on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram!

Destiny 2: Warmind Expands Bungie’s Shooter on May 8

Hello PlayStation Nation! We’re eager to see you starside again in Warmind, the second Expansion to Destiny 2. Check out the prologue trailer to meet the new hero that will join you on your journey.

Beneath the frozen ice caps of Mars, an ancient enemy is clawing their way back to the surface. To stop the Hive from unleashing their gods, you’ll need to work with one of the most powerful weapons created during the golden age.

Warmind is packed with new ways to play Destiny. A new endgame co-op mode we call Escalation Protocol is a challenge you can activate to fight new enemies, solve new puzzles, and win new rewards. On PlayStation, you’ll also invade an alien stronghold in a new exclusive Strike, The Insight Terminus. With the beginning of Season 3 of Destiny 2, all players will see the arrival of Private Matches and Seasonal Rankings in the Crucible.

This new adventure was created in partnership between Bungie and Vicarious Visions. The action begins on May 8. We hope to see you back in the wild to score some new loot for your Guardian.

Fullbright’s Tacoma Heads to PS4 May 8

Hi there! I’m Steve Gaynor, one of the founders of Fullbright, the creators of Gone Home – and today I’m really excited to announce that we’re bringing our latest game, Tacoma, to PlayStation 4! Tacoma is available to pre-order on PS4 for a special discount right now and will officially launch on PlayStation on May 8!

At Fullbright, we’re known for our focus on emotional stories and immersive places. Gone Home was all about exploring a family’s house and discovering who they were by what they left behind. But with Tacoma, we wanted to push ourselves further: to bring the player closer to the story, putting them in the middle of the moments these characters experienced, giving players new interactive tools to discover every detail of the story as it unfolds.

So in Tacoma, you explore a high-tech space station in the year 2088 – and you use the station’s 3D recording and playback technology to put yourself “in the room” as past moments in the missing crew’s lives happen all around you. It’s a totally new way of playing as an “interactive investigator,” both moving yourself through the station’s physical space as a detective finding objects and clues that tell you about who these people are, and also moving the timeline of events forward and back through these immersive 3D recordings, pausing, rewinding, and discovering every moment of the scenes the station’s surveillance technology has captured.

In one scene you might hear a heated argument going on in one hidden corridor, and then rewind and find that a tender moment between two crewmembers was happening at the exact same time in just the next room. Or you might experience a disastrous explosion rock the station while observing events in the administrator’s office, then rewind the timeline to discover what each and every other member of the crew was doing leading up to that crucial point.

You even have access to the personal communications and “virtual desktops” of each crewmember, showing you the secret information that only they had, informing each individual character’s unique perspective on the world and events around them – perspective that only you, as a kind of “digital detective,” have the tools to uncover.

We’re so excited to bring Tacoma to our fans on PS4 – and with Tacoma’s arrival on PlayStation, we’re also adding a brand new mode to the game: the all-new Developer Commentary Mode, featuring over two hours of audio commentary from the writers, designers, artists and programmers who brought Tacoma to life!

While we aim to make our games as seamless and immersive as possible, we also love hearing the weird behind-the-scenes stories of how our favorite games are made, where their inspirations came from, and all the tricks of the trade that went into bringing them to life – and that’s just what we aim to bring you with Tacoma’s Commentary Mode! Myself and my story partner Karla discuss the backstories of the characters and our speculative future world; our designers Tynan and Nina talk about all the ins and outs of how the station was built; Hannah our programmer and Noël our animator talk about building the AR scenes and bringing these characters to life; Patrick our sound designer shares insight into where the audio landscape of Tacoma came from; and even more folks jump in to talk about their roles in the creation of the game.

If you’ve enjoyed this glimpse into how Tacoma came to be, I really hope you’ll pre-order on PS4 right now or buy the game when it launches on PS4 on May 8! If you order now, you’ll get the game at a limited-time launch discount that won’t last long. Thanks so much for coming along with us on this journey. We can’t wait for you to play Tacoma on your PS4!

Hey everyone! I’m Terrence Yee, a producer on H1Z1, and I’m excited to share some big news with you today: H1Z1 is coming to PS4 as a free-to-play game next month!

This is the battle-royale game for fans of action console shooters. Battle royale should be about the adrenaline rush you get from being one of the last few remaining, so we’ve drilled down to that core gameplay experience to keep players engaged in all the action. This means more guns, more vehicles, more weapons, a streamlined UI, familiar console controls and faster matches—it’s pure battle royale.

Plus, we’ve added a new take on in-match power progression that forces players to make strategic decisions if they want to win. Now, players will have to engage with airdrops – which drop in masses and frequently – if they want access to better weapons and gear. This includes six new guns: the KH43, Marauder, MK46, Combat Shotgun, CNQ-09 and Scout Rifle. The gas, which is dynamically based of the population, also moves faster to speed up the pace of the game, ensuring that matches don’t last more than 15 nail-biting minutes.

The battle royale craze has taken over the world and it has been amazing to be part of the genre from the beginning. We can’t wait to hear about your pure battle royale experience on the PS4.

If you want to jump into the action early to help test H1Z1 on the PS4, sign up for the Closed Beta here: H1Z1.com/PlayStation4.

We hope to see you all on May 22, with the start of Open Beta. Until then, be sure to follow H1Z1 on social to stay up to date on all the news.

Gonner Coming to PS4 on May 15

What’s a-happenin’, PlayStation Nation! Get ready for the best announcement you’ve heard all week! The IGF award-winning Gonner is coming to the PS4 on May 15! I will conveniently ignore the fact that you probably learned that from the subject line and pretend that your mind was just blown by that statement.

It’s true: the smash-hit, tough-as-nails platformer-shooter by Art in Heart is coming to this glorious console! Initiate the celebration happy dances!

Haven’t heard of Gonner, you say? Step 1: remove the cotton and/or wax buildup from your ear-things and listen up. Gonner is a procedurally-generated 2D platformer with roguelike elements, following the largely misunderstood and altruistic Ikk on a journey to cheer up his only friend in this world – a giant landbound whale named Sally – by searching for just the right trinket in the deep and dark places nearby.

Ikk makes his way through this mystical land, powering himself up with the help of three things: heads, backpacks, and weapons. Heads will give you your base health and some kind of nifty trait. Backpacks will give you special abilities like high jumps or temporary invincibility. Weapons do exactly what you think they do (C’mon, do I have to explain everything to you?)

It’s got stuff to unlock! It’s got secrets galore! It has graphics, sounds, and music, all of which is really freaking good! It has death! Lots of death! You will die a lot, and even visit Death himself!

Oh, did I mention that it will have leaderboards, too? (quickly re-reads) Okay, no, it looks like I didn’t… Well anyway, it has leaderboards! You’ll be able to secure sweet bragging rights to your friends, enemies, and frenemies for dominating them on the Daily Challenges and the All-Time High Scores.

And last but certainly not least, exclusively here on PS4, your copy will also come with a Gonner Theme that can make your dashboard about 3.712 times more attractive! You won’t find this kind of Gonner majesty anywhere else!

Think of picking up this game as if you’re entering a long-term relationship. We totally plan to keep supporting with new content in the future; this ain’t no one-and-done thing, baby. We care about you, and we want to see your Gonneriffic dreams come true. We’re here to stay.

Thanks a bunch for checking us out and supporting indies on PlayStation! And feel free to give a shout if you’ve got any questions (Though we may not hear you, so you should probably also type them to us).

Shining Resonance Refrain Launches July 10 on PS4

We announced Shining Resonance Refrain’s western launch earlier this year, and now we are happy to announce that the game will launch both physically and digitally for PS4 on July 10! It’s not long before you’ll be able to wield the awesome power of the Shining Dragon to smash enemies, and then top it off with a sick B.A.N.D. performance.

Wait, what’s a B.A.N.D. performance?

I’m glad you asked! The B.A.N.D. system (Battle Anthem of the Noble Dragoneers) gives characters the chance to take center-stage and perform a musical performance in the middle of battle. These performances grant powerful buffs for the party or inflict devastating debuffs on enemies through the power of their Armonics, or ancient weapon-instruments created by the Shining Dragon.

These effects change depending on which song you choose to play, and which party member takes the center role. A band’s music is only as good as its members, so let’s get to know each of the playable characters you’ll encounter in your travels through Alfheim!

Yuma Ilvern – The Boy with the Dragon’s Soul

Yuma is an unassuming, somewhat timid young man who possesses the soul of the legendary Shining Dragon. Despite his incredible strength, he tries his best to suppress his abilities and avoid trouble whenever possible. In an attempt to secure the power of the Shining Dragon for themselves, the Lombardian Empire kidnaps Yuma. This is where his story truly begins.

In battle, Yuma fights with the Dragon Resonator Vandelhorn, dealing high damage and quickly maneuvering around the battlefield. He also has the ability to transform into the Shining Dragon for a limited period of time to deal massive damage to more dangerous opponents.

Sonia Blanche – The Lightning Princess

Sonia is the daughter of Albert, King of Astoria. She has a fierce tenacity that defies her gentle appearance, and she insists on fighting on the front lines for the sake of Astoria.

On the battlefield Sonia shows the enemy why she’s earned the nickname of “Astoria’s Lightning Princess,” darting across the field and dispatching enemies with precise, lightning-quick strikes.

Kirika Towa Alma – The Diva of Nature

An elf raised from birth to take on the role of “Diva Magica,” Kirika is a priestess with the power to commune with dragons and control the forces of nature. Although she seems calm and composed on the outside, she has a few interesting quirks that often takes her companions by surprise.

Kirika is a member of the Dragoneers, warriors who wield the legendary Armonics. While her damage-dealing abilities are nothing to sneeze at, she prefers to take on a more supportive role as a healer for the party.

Rinna Mayfield – The Whirlwind Sylph

An elven mage and Kirika’s most trusted attendant, Rinna boosts the spirits of everyone around her with her cheerful personality. Rinna is rarely without her fairy companion, Fromage, who helps guide the party throughout their journey.

Rinna prefers to stay on the back lines in battle. She uses her trusty Armonic to provide support to party members and blow enemies away with wind magic.

Agnum Bulletheart – The Pyromaestro

A musical mage with a burning heart, Agnum does everything in his power to make sure that he’s always the center of attention. He never backs down from a challenge, and his fiery personality is perfectly accented by his magical ability to control fire.

Like Kirika and Rinna, he holds the title of Dragoneer and wields a massive, axe-like Armonic. He’s comfortable in both close-range and long-range combat, as long as he has the opportunity to show off his skills.

Lestin Sera Alma – The Glacier Sentinel

Lestin is Kirika’s older brother, a Dragoneer, and Captain of the knights of the elven kingdom of Wellant. His position as Kirika’s older brother takes precedence over everything else, however, and he’ll often switch personalities entirely when it comes to protecting her. Much like Agnum’s fire, Lestin’s control over ice complements his personality well.

In battle, Lestin restricts enemies’ movement with powerful ice magic, then shatters them with his halberd-like Armonic.

Excella Noa Aura – The Dragon Princess of the Holy Dirge

The Imperial Princess of the Lombardian Empire, Excella has the abilities of both Diva Magica and Dragoneer. Logical, loyal, and holding all the qualities of a natural leader, Excella lives by putting the needs of her country above all else, leading her to command a campaign to secure the power of the Shining Dragon for the Empire. However, this encounter doesn’t go exactly as planned, and the resulting battle ends up changing her life forever.

As both a Diva Magica and Dragoneer, Excella has the unique ability to control ancient weapons known as the Dracomachina, living weapons in the form of dragons. She can also control gravity magic to keep enemies pinned down while launching an assault.

Jinas Aion – The Lone Dragonslayer

A wanderer with no known affiliation to any faction or government, Jinas Aion is the personification of mystery. He’s known across the Empire for his astounding ability to annihilate dragons in a single strike from his powerful katana.

In battle, Jinas overwhelms his opponents with lightning-speed strikes from his divine katana, Susano-o.

Character relationships make up a major part of Shining Resonance Refrain’s gameplay and story, so look forward to learning more about your favorite character(s) when the game launches on July 10, 2018!

Behind the Strange Story of Co-op Adventure Strange Brigade

Just under a year ago we struck out into unknown territory and announced Strange Brigade – our new 1930’s action adventure for one to four players. Since then we’ve taken the game on the road, but since PSX (what a fantastic show for the PlayStation community) we’ve been silent as, well, a tomb! But fret no longer, adventurers, for it’s time to blow open this dusty sarcophagus and finally unveil the rip-roaring story that drives Strange Brigade’s campaign, as well as some important new gameplay details.

The call to adventure awaits …

A Story 4,000 Years in the Making

At the heart of Strange Brigade’s campaign lies Seteki, the Witch Queen. Ruling over Saharan Africa nearly 4,000 years ago, her dynasty was so barbaric that she was eventually overthrown, her dark temples overturned, and her history wiped from the hieroglyphs.

Our tale of derring-do begins in 1930’s Egypt where a reckless amateur archaeologist Edgar Harbin attempted to write himself into archaeological notoriety by finding the fabled tomb of Seteki, and in doing so unleashed the fallen Queen’s spirit from a millenia-long imprisonment. Fortunately for the rest of the world, Harbin’s expedition had been infiltrated by an agent from a shadowy British organisation who has since gone missing…

Stranger Things

The Strange Brigade is the nickname given by British Government officials to a mysterious arm of the Secret Service. Formed in 1858 out of the ashes of the East India Company, the Strange Brigade was tasked with helping the world rather than exploiting it. As 19th Century technology and exploration advanced ever further, mankind began to uncover dark and ancient powers that had been long buried… and with good reason!

Recruited from around the world for their unusual talents by a certain Lady Imelda Webster, the Strange Brigade travels the world defeating metaphysical menaces wherever they appear.

All That Glitters is Probably Gold… and More!

About 90 seconds into our latest trailer you can glimpse a new glowing device now owned by each player. These “amulets” are the key to the Strange Brigade’s magical prowess and add a lovely new gameplay mechanic to boot. In early incarnations of the game players automatically powered up by defeating enemies, but now they have to use their amulets to deliberately “absorb” souls from enemies and charge up explosive magical attacks, leaving you thrillingly vulnerable as you do so. It feels great to use and gives the game’s combat a really unique rhythm!

Treasure obviously plays its part in the trailer, too. I mean the Mummies aren’t going to use it are they? Players are rewarded with gold for defeating enemies and exploring off the beaten track. This can be used to unlock new weapons and items between levels which can be dropped into loadouts at various workbenches throughout each level.

You’ll want to keep some pennies in your back pockets however, as gold can also be spent on limited-time “prototype” weapons such as the the fire-spitting Krakatoa, the ice cold Chill Burster, and the brain-busting Blunderbuss! And don’t worry, there will be no micro-transactions – this is all for progression and fun.

We hope you’ll join us on our adventure when Strange Brigade launches on August 28 – but look out for more dispatches in the meantime!

Omensight Hits PS4 on May 15th, PS Plus Members Get Pre-order Discount

Hello, PlayStation fans! After being extremely coy about our release date at PAX East, we are so happy to finally announce that Spearhead Games’ next action-adventure game, Omensight, will be released on May 15th. The game will be part of Totally Digital and pre-orders will start tomorrow… with a 20% discount for PS Plus members! We’re thrilled to share the brand-new trailer to mark this very special occasion.

Omensight takes the branching narrative structure of Stories: The Path of Destinies and spins it in an interesting new direction. In Stories, our focus was to let players explore all the choices available to them. But in Omensight, we decided that choices should matter more, since the objective is tied to solving a murder mystery leading to the end of the world of Urralia. You will need to pay attention to the hints and clues provided by fellow companions, who are all involved in the murder of the Godless-Priestess Vera in some way. This will help you make the right decisions to progress in your investigation.

Our writers, Nadim Boukhira and Genese Davis, with support from Chris Avellone, spent countless hours crafting an intricate story of conspiracy, mythology, and time-loop for Omensight. They really focused on giving each of the major characters their own distinct personality and motivations, making sure their dialogue included vital clues about the identity of the murderer.

Speaking of characters, we are so honored to have worked with a fantastic cast of voice actors. Julian Casey, who gave a tour-de-force performance as the narrator in Stories, returns to voice the menacing Indrik, Emperor of Pygarian Empire. Patricia Summersett, who’s appeared in multiple Ubisoft games and voiced Zelda in Zelda: Breath of the Wild recently, plays the honorable General Draga and the always-helpful Witch. Leda Davies really brought out the witty, playful side of Ratika, leader of rebels. And last but not least, Lateef Martin is Ludomir in the game and in real life, a big guy with a heart of gold.

We hope you’ll enjoy the story and the characters of Omensight as much as we enjoyed bringing them to life when the game releases on May 15th!

What’s Their Story?
