PaRappa, Patapon & LocoRoco Remasters Coming to PS4

During the PlayStation Experience Showcase this morning, we were finally able to pump up the volume on three classic games with two things connecting them: 1) They feature music in a unique way and 2) They are all getting remastered!

The classic hip-hop beats of PaRappa the Rapper, the addictively charming tunes sung by scores of Loco Roco, and the marching war beats of Patapon are coming to PlayStation 4 in 2017. Lovingly rendered in 4K (requires PS4 Pro and a 4K-compatible display) and 1080p, these iconic characters will get a new life on today’s televisions. To give you a taste of the love we are putting into developing these games for a new generation, we are releasing a demo of PaRappa the Rapper Remastered today!

Besides making the games look great on your HD and 4K televisions, we are adding special features to take advantage of PS4 and DualShock 4 capabilities. For PaRappa the Rapper Remastered, the DualShock 4 controller provides a steady metronome for each song to help the player ‘feel’ the beat of the rap. LocoRoco Remastered takes advantage of the features a DualShock 4 offers incorporating motion controls to help roll, bounce and tilt the LocoRoco through their vibrantly animated worlds.

Keep an eye on PlayStation.Blog for more updates in the coming months! Until then, in the rain or in the snow, I got the funky flow but now I really gotta go.

Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy: First Screens, In-Depth Details

We at Vicarious Visions love Crash, and we’re super excited for everyone to play the N. Sane Trilogy. But we can’t fly everyone out to Anaheim to play it in person, so here’s a peek that answers some burning questions. And the biggest question everyone keeps asking us, “Is this a remaster or a remake?”

The answer is not simple.

It’s practically impossible to make a traditional remaster of the original Naughty Dog games. They’re roughly 20 years old, and technology has advanced significantly in that time. The original code and assets are nearly unusable. Nearly.

But we don’t consider this a remake. We know how much you all love the original games, so we didn’t want to fully remake them. The N. Sane Trilogy is a remaster plus.

The first step in our remaster plus was to truly understand what made the Naughty Dog games special and why fans still love them to this day. The best way to understand a game is to play it, and boy, did we play the Crash games. We played them to the point that we broke controllers from mashing the jump button too much. We studied original concept art and commercials for inspiration. And we went even further back to understand the material that originally inspired Naughty Dog, including Who Framed Roger Rabbit? and Looney Tunes.

With all of that in mind, we started our work. Using the original level geometry from Naughty Dog as a guide, we rebuilt the Crash gameplay from scratch, capturing its simplicity and precision. As the levels began to take shape, we layered in our own lush and zany art, animation, and audio.

Let’s see the results! Here are some work-in-progress examples of what to expect:

  • Rebuilt levels, based on the original geometry:

Crash Bandicoot N Sane Trilogy, Environment

Another beautiful day at N. Sanity Beach!

  • Rebuilt characters, following the original designs:

Crash Bandicoot N Sane Trilogy, Characters

Such a motley crew.

  • Rebuilt cinematics, inspired by the originals:

Crash Bandicoot N Sane Trilogy, Cinematic

What a jerk.

Adding New Features

Because this is a remaster plus, we have an opportunity to add features.

Choosing new features is a difficult process. We consider numerous things, including the team’s ideas and fan requests, but perhaps our most important consideration is the evolution of the franchise itself. Naughty Dog learned a lot of lessons on how to refine the Crash formula over the course of making three games. So, the first new features we’ve worked on take the best of each of the games and apply them to all three.

Here are some work-in-progress examples:

  • Unified checkpointing & save game system. This includes manual and auto-saving. (Yes, the first game now has a proper save game system!)
  • Unified menu system. Here an example of the Pause menu for Crash Bandicoot:

Crash Bandicoot N Sane Trilogy, Pause Menu

Eagle-eyed readers will notice something special about this Pause Menu.

  • Time Trials in all three games!

Crash Bandicoot N Sane Trilogy, Time Trials

The competition for relic times on our team is fierce!

These aren’t the only new features for the N. Sane Trilogy. However, that’s all we’re going to share for today.

Crash Bandicoot N Sane Trilogy, End Screen

Okay, maybe one more peek.

Seriously, though, there’s no time for more. We have to get back to work making the game. (Naughty Dog packed so much gameplay into those original PlayStation CDs!) We hope you enjoyed this taste of the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, and we’re excited to share more with you soon!

Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition Launches April 7, 2017 on PS4

Hi! I’m Sebastian Wojciechowski, president of People Can Fly, and I’m thrilled to share some exciting news with PlayStation fans around the world. Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition is coming to PS4 on April 7, 2017!

You might be familiar with Bulletstorm, or you might be hearing about the game for the first time today. No matter if you’re diehard fan or if you’re new to the series, Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition has something for you!

The game follows the story of Grayson Hunt, a professional assassin who’s been exiled from the elite group Dead Echo. Grayson’s been betrayed by his commander, General Serrano, and finds himself stranded on the planet Stygia — which was once a popular resort destination but is now overrun by mutants, irradiated plant life, cannibals, and things even worse than that (Really, even worse than cannibals). Grayson now has to decide — get himself and his crew off the planet alive, or confront the general who betrayed him.

As we were developing Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition, we wanted to provide the ultimate Bulletstorm experience for fans. And we feel that we delivered on that, as this game has it all! You’ll get to experience Bulletstorm and all of the DLC released for the game in one package, along with improvements that weren’t possible until now with PS4.

We started by going back to the original Bulletstorm and upgrading the visuals and presentation; when you jump into the game you’ll experience updated character models, environments, lighting effects, animations, and more. And on top of that, the game runs at a smoother framerate than ever before giving even more fluidity to the gameplay. And if you own a PS4 Pro, you’ll be able to enjoy all of these graphical enhancements even further in stunning 4K resolution.

But there’s more to the game than a fresh coat of paint. We’ve also added in some new content that hasn’t been seen before! There’s a new Overkill Campaign Mode, where you can blast your way through the campaign by starting off with an unrestricted arsenal of weapons and skillshots. If you’re new to Bulletstorm, skillshots are unique kills in which you use the environment around you to take out your enemies with style. Using skillshots will reward you with skillpoints, which can be used to upgrade your arsenal.

There’s also six new Echo Maps, where you can showcase your skills in the score-based Echo Mode. And last but definitely not least, fans who pre-order Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition will get free access to the Duke Nukem’s Bulletstorm Tour DLC, which gives you the option to swap out Grayson Hunt with the iconic Duke Nukem!

You heard right, we’ve got the voice of Duke himself, Jon St. John, in the game with a re-recorded script and all new lines, along with a hi-def rendered version of Duke Nukem. If you’ve ever wanted to play as Duke Nukem in HD on your PS4, this is your chance!

At People Can Fly, we love the Bulletstorm franchise. That’s why we’re happy to be working with Gearbox Publishing, who love the series just like we do. And with the similarities between our companies in how we develop first-person shooters with a focus on humor and unforgettable experiences, we feel that this is a partnership that is great for the game and its fans.

We’re thrilled to be bringing this game to PlayStation fans and can’t wait to watch your livestreams and videos as you make Bulletstorm your own. See you in April!

The Street Fighter World Champion Will Emerge This Weekend at PS Experience

The culmination of the 2016 Season of the Capcom Pro Tour is upon us with Capcom Cup 2016 this weekend on December 2 and December 3! 32 of the best Street Fighter V players will come together and fight for more than $400,000 in prizing, and the title of Street Fighter World Champion.

Capcom Cup this year will be a two day event with day one taking place at Esports Arena in Santa Ana, CA, and day two featuring the top eight finalists at PlayStation Experience at the Anaheim Convention Center.

Watch all the action live at http://ift.tt/TI7Gl7 with day one streaming live from 9:00 AM to 12:00 AM Pacific and day two from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM Pacific.

For more information on ticket sales and other details, be sure to check out the Capcom Pro Tour website.

Thanks to the support of all of our fans we’ve exceeded our goal by raising more than $150,000 in additional prize money for Capcom Cup 2016 due to the sales of the Capcom Pro Tour DLC. With a baseline of $250,000 this puts the total at more than $400,000 — the largest prize pool in fighting game history!

Not only does it pay to be a winner in terms of cold hard cash, but the winner of Capcom Cup 2016 will also make history in a few other ways.

First, just like last year, whoever takes first place will be able to help design their own Champion’s Choice Street Fighter V costume for whichever character they like. They’ll work with the Street Fighter V development team to provide feedback on various designs and ultimately choose the design they like the most.

Next, we’ve got a brand new trophy for Capcom Cup that is unlike any other. Each year, we will engrave the name of the champion to the base of the trophy so their legacy will never be forgotten. This mega-trophy will live at Capcom USA HQ and only be brought out each year for Capcom Cup.

That’s it for today! Remember to follow @CapcomFighters on Twitter for the latest updates on Capcom Cup!
