Organic Panic Comes to PS4 in March

When my brother, Anatole, and I first hatched the plan to make a game independently, we never imagined where it would take us.

We started off thinking about the kinds of games we grew up with and how much fun playing games together has always been. We love old-school action-platformers and games that let you experiment creatively with how you solve problems, so combining those ideas was essential. It’s fair to say we’re influenced by classics like Chaos, Lemmings, Worms, Gears, and Little Big Planet, but we wanted to push it further with totally destructible environments and fluid dynamics.

What came from that vision is our debut title, Organic Panic, which we’re beyond excited to announce is coming to PS4 this March!

Organic Panic is a physics-based puzzle-platformer that pits the main food groups against each other in a chaotically fun and lighthearted battle royale extravaganza! What brings all the madness together is the incredible D.A.F.T. (Destructible and Fluid Technology) Engine. Anything goes, because nearly every environmental element (characters, platforms, enemies, weapons, etc.) can be controlled and manipulated in some clever way.

Earth can be smashed through, wood floats and burns, lightning conducts, ice slips and melts, water flows and douses fire, rubber bounces, acid disintegrates, and the list goes on! Basically you’re left to your own devices as to how to use all the powers and physics at your disposal.

Organic Panic on PS4Organic Panic on PS4

It’s a seriously big game with more than 200 highly refined and totally destructible levels of action and puzzles, but we keep it fresh with new worlds and game modes to explore. The single-player quest is driven by a comedic story, but we’ve also got local couch co-op and versus modes for up to four! The controls are straightforward enough that you can easily pull newcomers in, but there are still enough tools for hardcore players to discover their own unique strategies to go for gold on the leaderboards.

We’ve had quite the adventure with Organic Panic, from our successful Kickstarter to shows like PAX Prime, PAX East, and IndieCade. We’ll be at PAX East with the game again this year, so feel free to drop by to say hi or play a quick match — we’ve got lots of freebies left over from our Kickstarter to dish out!

Organic Panic on PS4

Watching people play the final product is always so cool for us. We designed most of the levels with multiple ways to solve them, so we still see people figure things out in ways we hadn’t even imagined. I watch my son play it and he rips through them in crazy ways (he’s 6 now, though he’s been testing the game for 3 years already — child services should have really been knocking at my door a long time ago for that much labor!). This type of genuine freedom to brainstorm your own solution to any problem is the backbone of Organic Panic, and it’s why we can’t wait to get the final product in your hands.

You can join the food fight when Organic Panic arrives on PlayStation Store for PS4 in March!

Introducing Dangerous Golf, Launching This May on PS4

Welcome to the world of Dangerous Golf, a game coming to PS4 this May.

I’m Fiona Sperry and I co-founded Three Fields Entertainment with partners Alex Ward and Paul Ross in February 2014. We’re a small, independent British studio comprised of veteran developers from Criterion Games, Ubisoft, and Disney. We’re no strangers to blockbuster games having worked on the entire Burnout series, Black, and Need for Speed Hot Pursuit over the past fifteen years. Our small but extremely talented development team has more than 150 years in game development experience.

Dangerous Golf on PS4

For our first title, we wanted to make a wild, physics-powered experience that harnesses the gameplay, technology, and power of PS4. We also wanted to focus on what we do best — which is making fast, fun, and spectacular arcade style games. Dangerous Golf is just that. It’s as serious a true golf game as Burnout was a serious simulation of real driving.

We wanted to see what would happen if we mixed the attitude of Burnout with the destruction of Black whilst powering up a golf ball and setting it on fire — a clear nod to NBA Jam, one of my all-time favorite games. This type of fast gameplay has always been part of our DNA and it’s something we hope you’ll enjoy playing.

In Dangerous Golf, you’re not striving for Par or aiming for a Birdie — you’re playing for points awarded for causing damage. It’s about smashing the place up and then banging the ball into the hole by pulling off an outrageous trick shot. Break enough stuff and you can power up the ball, turn it into a fireball, and steer it around for a limited time to try and smash more stuff.

Dangerous Golf on PS4Dangerous Golf on PS4

There are more than 100 holes to attack in a series of indoor and outdoor locations. Make a huge mess in a hotel kitchen, destroy a glittering palace ballroom, or even set fire to a rural gas station — the choice is yours.

Despite the fact that Dangerous Golf is a fun and silly game, it has a serious technical edge. We’ve been working closely with the guys in Epic’s Unreal Engine 4 team and Nvidia to deliver a truly physics-driven game.

We’re a small indie team but we’ve got big ambitions. We like to shatter expectations, bring silliness and joy back to game development, and have a lot of fun in the process. Get ready to play dangerously this May!

Livelock Lands on PS4 This Year

Hi, PlayStation Nation! My name is Alex Monney and I’m the communications manager for Perfect World Entertainment. Our team here at PWE and friends over at Tuque Games are thrilled to unveil Livelock, launching on PS4 this year. Livelock is a fast-paced, cooperative, top-down shooter based in a post-human world where machines are waging an infinite war against each other.

Livelock takes place in the 22nd century following a catastrophic gamma ray burst that wipes humanity out. The world has now been taken over by Rogue Clusters — groups of mechanized armies that have taken over control of different territories following the corruption of their data and are waging war against each other. In order to prevent this, SATCOM, a highly sophisticated satellite Super A.I., is awakening backups of human consciousness known as Capital Intellects, who have been inserted into large machines built by humans before the gamma ray burst.

When thinking about Livelock, our teams looked to create something that brought us back to the fun and camaraderie of the arcade days. A game that presents a challenge for even those experienced video game players. While you’ll have a variety of tools to succeed at your disposal, refining your abilities, thinking tactically, and working cooperatively are the only ways to overcome some of our most challenging content. Think less of a bullet hell top-down shooter and more about overcoming overwhelming odds.

Livelock on PS4Livelock on PS4

With our announcement today, we are also revealing our first of three playable characters — Hex. Prior to a catastrophic gamma ray burst in the 22nd century, Hex was a renowned e-sports professional who became feared by many as he honed his craft. He was also one of the first to participate in a risky experiment to upload his consciousness to a database, which was later uploaded to a machine by SATCOM following the catastrophe.

We’ll have a lot more more Livelock to show as we build towards launch including the announcements for our other two Capital Intellects.

Blade Ballet Coming to PS4

Hello all, I’m Kevin from DreamSail Games and I’m excited to announce that our studio’s first game, Blade Ballet, is coming to PS4 this Spring. Take a look at our trailer to see our four-player, whirling robot deathmatch in action.

Blade Ballet indulges your heart’s deepest, hidden desire of controlling adorable robots as they spin, slash, and stab each other to bits. Each bot taps into a unique slice of our team’s crazy ideas about futuristic combat. Sneaky cheaters bypass shields. Demolitions experts bent on destruction hurl explosives across the screen. And my personal favorite smashes its competitors with a giant wrecking ball.

The battle arenas are even more insane than the bots. Crush your friends on indoor ski slopes while dodging robo-trees and surprisingly dangerous cardboard cutouts of humans. Battle in an AI storage core and use giant push-button lasers to obliterate each other. Master each level’s mechanics to emerge from brawls victorious.

Humble Beginnings

Blade Ballet didn’t start out as a “real” game. One night at PAX Prime, our programming team made a quick demo of two cubes that could move and spin, possessing swords and the ability to destroy each other. We ended up playing that little prototype for hours, satisfied by the graceful kills we executed even as awkward little cubes.

When we got back to the studio after PAX, we decided to spend some time building out the concept and eventually put it into full production. Five months later, we’re thrilled to be nearing the finish line.

Blade Ballet on PS4Blade Ballet on PS4

What the Future Holds

We made this game with brawler multiplayer in our hearts. All of us here at DreamSail have fond memories of smacking controllers out of our friends’ hands and taunting them with our real-life victory dances, and we’re excited for Blade Ballet to create even more of those moments.

PlayStation has shown great support for indie multiplayer fighting games on PS4, and we’re proud to be in good company. DreamSail is invested in building a community to bring people together to play great multiplayer games. We’re also excited to take our game beyond the couch, and are hard at work putting together an online mode.

We have way too many ideas for bots and arenas to get them all in before launch, so we will be supporting Blade Ballet with content for months to come. These bots and arenas will be included with the original game, so don’t worry about going over to a friend’s house and not having a full roster. We’re cramming tons of stuff into the game over the next few months, so follow our development and let us know what you think.

Blade Ballet on PS4

At DreamSail Games, we care most about multiplayer experiences and creating games that are best played with others. We think our bot bash battler is a great way to introduce you to what we have to offer.

Look for Blade Ballet this Spring on PS4, and thanks from all of us at DreamSail for reading!

The Witness: 6 Spoiler-Free Tips

The Witness is out now. I’ve played and finished Jonathan Blow’s eight-year opus (twice!), but I still haven’t discovered all of its deepest secrets. I’d advise anyone playing The Witness to go in as blind as possible, but having become relatively knowledgeable about the game I’ve come up with six pieces of advice I’d like to share with you.

These tips will not spoil anything about the game’s story, locations, mechanics or secrets. Rather, they’re simply things I wish I had known when I first started playing. Enjoy!

The Witness

1. Stock up on graph paper

You’re gonna need it. Sure, you might be able to solve most of The Witness’ puzzles in your head, or by workshopping ideas directly on the panel you’re working on, but there are a number of challenges that will be very, very difficult to solve without a pen and paper for anyone with an IQ under 150.

2. Use that Share button

Building off the last point, there are lots of things you’re going to see in The Witness whose function may not be immediately apparent. As luck would have it, PS4 has a built-in screenshot button! Take lots of notes, not only with that graph paper I mentioned above but in the form of visual reminders you can refer back to when you inevitably experience one of those “wait a minute…” moments.

The WitnessThe Witness

3. Play with headphones

(Or a very good sound system.) There may be no music in The Witness, but its sound design is some of the best in the business. Not only does the game’s already-impressive sense of isolation really kick in when you’re enveloped by its top-notch ambience, certain sounds are subtle enough that you won’t even notice them without a nice, loud setup.

4. Don’t overthink it

When I found myself struggling with a particular puzzle in The Witness, all too often it was a simple case of assuming the solution was going to be more complex than it ended up being. Think back to what you’ve discovered that area’s ruleset to be and try to attack it from different angles, rather than falling into the trap of continually elaborating on an assumed solution that just doesn’t seem to be cutting it. That said, some of these puzzles are merciless, which leads me to my next point…

The Witness

5. Don’t be afraid to walk away…

You’re going to get stuck. I promise. The difference here is that getting stuck in The Witness is okay, maybe even intended by its creators. Thankfully, since you have instant access to most of the island right from the get-go, you’re never trapped in any sort of linear progression system. Feel free to give up on a particularly challenging puzzle and explore elsewhere for a while — chances are something you do somewhere else will make that missing solution *click* into place. If all else fails, simply coming back to it with a set of fresh eyes will likely help. Finally, you don’t need to complete every puzzle in the game to reach its conclusion, so if one’s got you well and truly stumped, don’t feel like you’re reached a dead end.

6. … But don’t give up

This one’s going to be tough, but please do everything you can to avoid spoilers for The Witness, including solutions to puzzles or explanations of mechanics. So much of The Witness’ magic lies in the sense of discovery and accomplishment that you experience when finding a new area, solving a puzzle you thought for sure was impossible, or finally activating one of those weird laser beam things. Like I said before, you’re going to get stuck. You’re going to want to look up the answer, “maybe just for this one puzzle” to keep things moving along. Don’t do it. You’re only going to be able to experience The Witness for the first time once.
