Call of Duty XP is officially underway! 32 Pro Call of Duty teams from across the globe are primed to battle it out for their share of the $2 million prize pool, and the world is ready to see the premiere of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare multiplayer and Modern Warfare Remastered multiplayer, as well as get their hands on Infinite Warfare’s Zombies in Spaceland and Black Ops 3 DLC 4 multiplayer.
Activision kicked off the event with a briefing that was chock full of news, including the announcement of the eagerly-awaited Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Multiplayer Beta. The Beta will launch first for fans on PlayStation 4 starting October 14th.
In addition to the announcement of the Beta, we announced that the team is remastering all 16 maps from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Fans that pick up the Legacy or Digital Deluxe Editions of the game will receive 10 maps at launch, and the additional six in December at no additional cost.
Infinity Ward Studio Head Dave Stohl took the stage at the briefing to dive into the world of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare multiplayer, which included the introduction of Combat Rigs. These Rigs are tactical combat systems that let players customize their play style, offering more personalization options than ever before. Infinite Warfare’s multiplayer mode will also introduce a weapons crafting system, awesome new equipment, and environments brand new to the franchise.
Everything in Infinite Warfare’s multiplayer mode, including weapons, equipment, lethals and tacticals – has been built around all types of play styles, where players have the power to combine them however they want. The mode reveal outlined new customization features, and the fluid, momentum-based movement system of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 optimized to custom-fit the evolved combat.
Infinity Ward’s Narrative Director Taylor Kurosaki also joined the stage to debut brand new footage from Infinite Warfare’s campaign, showing off more seamless gameplay immersion that the team has been eager to show off to fans.
Finally, Treyarch Studio Head Mark Lamia took the stage to celebrate the studio’s 20th anniversary by ushering in the weekend of competition and the culmination of the first season of the COD World League, the Call of Duty Championship. Lamia also introduced the brand new multiplayer maps coming to Black Ops 3’ Salvation, the final installment of the DLC season, which COD XP attendees will be the first in the world to play.
Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg also paid tribute to the veterans that the Call of Duty Endowment was founded to support. The Call of Duty Endowment, which Activision Blizzard started in 2009 to help veterans build careers after service, has placed 25,000 veterans in jobs two years ahead of its 2018 goal — and has committed to placing 50,000 vets total by 2019. To celebrate, hundreds of military veterans and active duty members are attending the event to take part in all of the COD XP activities.
Additionally, the Endowment has partnered with the OpTic Gaming team to announce the 2016 Race to Prestige. The Race to Prestige, a livestream of round-the-clock gameplay, kicks off just prior to the launch of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. During The Race, OpTic Gaming’s mission is to raise funds for the Call of Duty Endowment while celebrating the release of the game on November 4.
